Around fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.
City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.
A senior representative said the incident left him without words and required to be solved quickly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
